Distinguished and Famous people from Tecoma
🏉 Rory Sloane
Rory Sloane's football began with Upwey–Tecoma's under-10s. His first goal was memorable partly because his father, acting as goal umpire, celebrated with both arms in the air instead of signalling properly. The umpire had to remind him he still had a job to do. Sloane later developed through the Eastern Ranges before Adelaide selected him in the 2008 national draft. His first AFL appearance in 2009 produced six handballs and seven tackles but no kicks, an unconventional introduction for a future club leader. Visits home to watch his brother Dylan play kept the family linked to the local team.
🏐 Shae Sloane
Shae Sloane played junior football for Upwey–Tecoma until the under-12 age group, then built an international volleyball career and captained Australia's Volleyroos. Her sporting story took another turn when Melbourne signed her for the 2019 AFLW season. Recruiters valued both her elite athletic experience and the football grounding she had gained as a child. The move meant returning to a game she already knew, after years devoted to another sport. Alongside brother Rory's career, her achievements give the shared Upwey–Tecoma club a connection with two siblings whose sporting paths reached national level in different ways.
